Jeppesen Marine (formerly Nobeltec) is the leading developer of PC-based marine navigation products. The company was established in 1993 by two ex-Microsoft engineers and avid boaters. Their idea was to produce a Windows-based program that displayed electronic navigation charts and tracked vessel position with a GPS. The Company’s first product, Navtrek, was a huge success. Due to the increasing popularity of PC’s over the next few years, sales took off. Soon after, Nobeltec broadened its product line by releasing Navtrek 97 and Navtrek Solo.
In 1999, Nobeltec merged with Nautical Software, a company that produced the popular ChartView Series and the award-winning Tides & Currents program. Soon after merging, Nobeltec released Visual Navigation Suite 5.0 and Passport World Charts, which proved to be two of the most successful products in Nobeltec’s history.
Shortly thereafter, Nobeltec was purchased by Jeppesen Sanderson Inc., which produces aviation charts in both paper and digital format. Jeppesen is a fully owned subsidiary of the Boeing Company. The company has renamed the Company, which is now Jeppesen Marine. Because of strong recognition in the marine industry, Jeppesen has retained usage of the Nobeltec name for its entire line of products. Jeppesen Marine now offers a complete line of navigation products including Nobeltec Admiral, Visual Navigation Suite, Passport World Charts, Radars, and Sounders.
